- Muslim marriages should be registered in accordance with the provisions under this Act.

|
- At least one of the parties to the marriage should be a citizen of Sri Lanka.
|
|
- A marriage contracted by a Muslim woman during her period of "Iddat" shall not be registered under the Act.
|
|
- A marriage contracted by a Muslim girl who has not attained the age of 12 years shall not be registered.
|
|
- Both parties should be of the Muslim faith.
|
|
Procedure for Registration
|
|
- The marriage registration between the concerned parties shall take place immediately upon the conclusion of the "Nikah" ceremony.
|
|
- Date, time and place of the ceremony should be informed to the diplomatic/Consular Officer by the following persons in order to register the marriage.
|
|
- The Bridegroom
- The "Wali" of the bride
- The person who conducts the "Nikah ceremony"
|
|
- Before the registration of a marriage, the following declaration should be made and signed in the presence of the concerned officer in the Embassy.
|

- Declaration by the Bridegroom - Annexure C
- Declaration by "Wali" of the bride - Annexure DD
|
|
- The third copy of the Marriage Certificate shall be handed over to the female party by the Diplomatic Officer.
